The Wakefield, Massachusetts post office was constructed with federal funds. The building, which opened for business in 1934, is still in use today.
The post office contains two marble reliefs by Fortunato Tarquinia entitled “Benjamin Franklin” and “George Washington.” The project was funded by the Treasury Section of Fine Arts in 1936.
Built in 1871, Wakefield’s Lafayette building “was used as the town’s high school until 1937, when it was remodeled as part of a WPA project for municipal offices.”
